Beat the Heat 5K

Five of our Wake OBXers were able to turn out for the Beat the Heat 5K race yesterday evening at Groves Stadium. We all agreed it was a tough course, simply because of the heat. It was in the 90s all day long. The route took us onto Deacon Blvd and Reynolds Blvd. Everyone achieved some sort of personal goal:
Erik managed to eek out a 19+ minute race inspite of running 6 miles that morning, followed by a golf tournament, followed by a 40 mile bike ride in the heat of the afternoon. Just think what he would do if he had rested in air conditioning all day! Carolyn did excellent, bringing in a 46+ minute time, 10 minutes less than her first 3 mile run two days previously. With this race, Mary completed her longest walk to date. Susan managed a sub-30 minute effort inspite of going along with Erik on the 40 mile ride! And Karen finished in35+ minutes after housecleaning all day. The post race party was worthy with pizza, subway sandwiches and lots of beer! Racer support was provided by Mark and Ron. Group Photo by Ron! Race pic snatched off TCTC site.
